about us
Pedaling Into East County
Founded in 2021 with just 8 riders, East County Shred is a mountain biking team made up of student-athletes in grades 6-12 from private, public, and homeschool settings in the East County area (Brentwood, Antioch, Discovery Bay, and Oakley). We started small and each year we’ve grown and we’re gearing up for even more exciting adventures!
Riding with the Pros: Our League
Our team competes in the NorCal High School Cycling League, part of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). Since its inception in 2009, NICA has been all about shifting the future of youth mountain biking, offering leadership, coach training, and top-notch events. With NICA’s support, we’re riding on a well-oiled machine of development and competition.
All Gears Welcome: Team Options
At East County Shred, everyone gets to ride! We offer both club and race team options, managed by an all-volunteer crew of dedicated cycling enthusiasts. Our team of long-time cyclists and mountain bikers ensures that every rider, regardless of skill level, finds their place on our trail.
2024 - 2025: On Track for Success
Building Strong Foundations: Our goal is to cultivate strong minds, bodies, and characters through the sport of mountain biking. We believe in developing not just riders, but well-rounded individuals who excel on and off the bike.
Creating a Trail-Friendly Culture: We’re all about fostering a welcoming, safe, and fun team environment. Our coaches focus on teaching the value of mountain biking as a lifelong activity, connecting with nature, and sharing those experiences with family and friends.
Respect on the Trail: Beyond riding skills and fitness, we emphasize respect—respect for each other, the environment, trails, and our communities. Our coaches instill values that make our riders not just better athletes, but better people.
Skills and Thrills: Riders learn essential skills like changing flats and carrying the right gear. Our goal is to ensure that everyone is well-prepared for any bumps in the road.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: We prioritize teamwork and confidence, aiming to develop stronger, more self-assured student-athletes both on the bike and in life.
Open Trails for All: We don’t cut anyone from the team. Every rider has the opportunity to contribute and grow, no matter their skill level.
Race Ready: For those interested in racing (though it’s not required), our athletes have 5 chances to race across California throughout the season. It’
